In many musical arenas, the DJ is called the Selector because their selections drive the vibe of whatever environment they are spinning at. Even with the presence and mainstream takeover of digital controllers, the medium for controlling the sounds is based on three hundred sixty degrees of rotation. Cutting, scratching, rewinding, and replaying within the context of the Selector’s skill set comes down to the fractional reduction of bits and pieces of that physical and literal cipher that is used to manipulate soundwaves. Selectors have been made organically and others through prosthetics, but the sonic performance is often the final judge on what is real and what is imagined.
